Terry Sheldon
Engineer and Landscape Architect
I was born and raised in a small town in upstate New York. After high school, I initially pursued a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. After three years my focus shifted to land-based design and I enrolled in the landscape architecture program at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, NY. I graduated from SUNY-ESF with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree in 1980.
My first position after graduation was as a site designer for a large building materials retailer in the Pittsburgh area. During my employment there, I prepared land development plans and supporting documents for over 100 new stores nationwide. I received my license to practice Landscape Architecture in 1983. Later, I did similar but more varied design work for a small architecture firm. This work ultimately led to an association with a professional land surveyor which lasted over ten years until the surveyor’s death in 2002.
I worked as a sole proprietor in the Pittsburgh area until 2006. At that time I became employed by a surveying and engineering firm in south central PA as a designer/project manager. I remained with that firm until 2012. During that time I became licensed as a Professional Engineer and certified as a Sewage Enforcement Officer.
Since 2012 I have been working primarily in the Adams County area. I am again a sole proprietor but I share an office and a very close working relationship with the land surveying firm Beyond All Boundaries.
Outside the office, my primary interest is performing on stage. I have been involved with several amateur theatrical companies over a period of nearly 40 years. Other interests include reading, watching sports and exploring the many historic and natural features of the central PA area.
